The locals are humble, genuine, gentle and hospitable and are willing to share their island with the tourists. The ocean is warm, the water crystal clear. Inland attractions didn't disappoint. \n\nWe spent a week in Amed, a small village on the eastern shores. Here the diving was unbelievable (according to those in the know) and the snorkeling just as impressive. The 28 deg C water made it possible to snorkel for an hour with only a rash vest. The water is really salty so floating around without fins is easy. \n\nWe had 2 dinners on the beach which was really different. Nothing like fish taken off a fishing boat and thrown onto an open fire. Steamed rice and fresh local vegetables added to the yumminess! \n\nThe local restaurants were so reasonably priced, R100 for a lunch for 2! Exchange rate was 1000 rupiah to R1 so you do the math! In Amed I had a massage every day! Ubud was a bit more expensive but not by much. Renting a scooter for a day cost us R60 in both Amed and Ubud. \n\nWe had one day of doing the tourist thing, stopping at the Mount Batur volcano, visiting the Tirta Empul holy spring and tasting the most expensive coffee in the world - Luwak coffee. \n\nThis was a trip of a lifetime. Thanks to all who shared this special holiday with us. We met as strangers and ended the trip as friends, each of you made the trip special in your own way. Well done to Tracy, Dave and Urban Dive for making the trip possible.
